Canva Launches ProSuite: A New Creative Ecosystem Bringing Design, Animation, AI, and Data Visualization Together

Sep 16
6 min read

Canva is expanding beyond accessible graphic design and making a significant move into professional creative production. On September 15, 2026, the company introduced Canva ProSuite, connecting four specialized creative platforms while announcing more than 100 features and improvements across its ecosystem.

The announcement brings together professional design, motion graphics, artificial intelligence, and interactive data visualization. More importantly, it introduces new ways for these tools to communicate, potentially reducing the need for creators to constantly export, convert, and rebuild their work across different applications.

For independent creators, creative agencies, and businesses, this development raises an exciting question: What happens when the tools we use for different creative disciplines begin working together?

Meet the four platforms powering Canva ProSuite

Canva ProSuite combines four specialized applications, each serving a different part of the creative process.

Affinity — Professional design and photo editing

Affinity combines vector illustration, photo editing, and page layout in one application. Its latest updates expand the precision, automation, and compatibility available to professional designers.

Cavalry — Motion graphics and animation

Cavalry specializes in procedural animation, enabling creators to produce sophisticated motion graphics, animated typography, and scalable visual content with real-time feedback.

Flourish — Interactive data visualization

Flourish transforms complex information into interactive charts, maps, animations, and visual stories. Its integration with Canva helps organizations communicate information through engaging visual presentations.

Leonardo.Ai — AI-powered visual generation

Leonardo supports AI image and video generation, allowing creators to explore concepts and produce multiple visual variations. Generated content can then be refined using Canva or Affinity.

Rather than replacing each application with one enormous design program, Canva is building connections between specialized tools. This allows professionals to continue using software suited to their craft while making it easier to collaborate with other creators and departments.

Affinity receives major upgrades for designers and photographers

Affinity is receiving some of the most substantial improvements in the announcement.

One particularly anticipated addition is the Blend Tool, which allows designers to create editable transitions between vector shapes. Users can adjust spacing, control how elements morph, and distribute objects along curved paths.

Other additions include:

  • Scripting to automate repetitive tasks across vector, pixel, and layout workflows.

  • A Claude AI connector that supports natural-language automation.

  • Improved RAW photo processing, batch imports, and reusable editing looks.

  • AI-assisted Scene Decomposition, which separates flattened images into editable layers.

  • Support for 3D models, native InDesign file imports, and improved compatibility with professional production software.

Affinity also introduces an Astrophotography Studio, new image correction capabilities, and additional illustration tools.

These improvements could be particularly valuable for photographers, illustrators, graphic designers, and professionals managing large volumes of creative assets.

Cavalry introduces more powerful motion design capabilities

Motion designers are also receiving a substantial update.

Canva announced more than 50 Cavalry improvements, including new Metaballs shapes, lighting effects, Ripple and Twist filters, improved SVG importing, and an upgraded Graph Editor.

One of the most interesting upcoming capabilities allows motion designers to create an animation in Cavalry and designate specific elements that can be edited directly in Canva.

Imagine producing an animated advertisement where the overall design remains locked, but a marketing team can update the promotional text or colors without rebuilding the animation.

This could simplify the process of adapting professional motion graphics for different campaigns, locations, and audiences.

Additional AI features, including background removal, vector generation, and image-to-layer conversion, are also planned for Cavalry. These features and the editable Canva animation handoff are described as coming soon, rather than all being available immediately.

Greater integration across the creative workflow

The new connections extend beyond individual feature upgrades.

Affinity files can now open directly in Cavalry with their layers intact, eliminating an additional export step. Canva Brand Kits can also be accessed within Affinity, helping teams maintain consistent colors, fonts, and visual identities.

Canva Sheets connects with Affinity through Data Merge, while Flourish visualizations can be incorporated into Canva designs.

For professional teams, these connections could reduce production friction and make it easier to move projects from initial concept to final delivery.

AI as a creative assistant, not a replacement for creativity

One of the most noteworthy aspects of Canva's announcement is its emphasis on preserving professional craftsmanship.

The company describes AI as a way to handle repetitive production tasks while allowing designers to maintain control over creative decisions.

For example, AI can assist with batch editing, organizing layers, image correction, and generating visual variations. However, the designer still determines the concept, composition, style, and final result.

Canva also states that work created in Affinity is not used to train its AI features and that Affinity files remain stored locally on the user's device.

This approach reflects an important principle for the future of creativity: AI becomes more valuable when it enhances human ability rather than replacing the creative process entirely.

A designer who understands composition, color theory, visual storytelling, and branding can use AI to explore possibilities more efficiently. But the technology itself does not eliminate the importance of those skills.

As creative technology becomes more accessible, developing a distinctive artistic identity may become increasingly important.

What does Canva ProSuite cost?

One particularly interesting decision is Canva's commitment to keeping the core Affinity and Cavalry applications free.

However, this does not mean that every feature or application in ProSuite is available without charge.

According to Canva's official information:

  • Affinity and Cavalry retain free core functionality.

  • Affinity's Canva AI Studio requires a premium Canva plan.

  • ProSuite is offered to Canva Business and Enterprise customers, with included features varying by application.

  • Flourish's Presenter plan is included with Business and Enterprise.

  • Leonardo.Ai is offered as a paid add-on, with certain existing Business users retaining access to premium features through a daily token allowance.

Canva also clarifies that ProSuite is a professional feature offering for Business and Enterprise customers, not simply a new name for the individual Canva Pro subscription.

The distinction matters for independent creators who may be interested in the free professional applications without needing an entire business software package.

What this means for the creative industry

The launch of Canva ProSuite signals a broader change in how creative software companies are approaching their products.

Instead of treating graphic design, animation, AI generation, and data visualization as completely separate disciplines, Canva is working toward an ecosystem where these processes can complement one another.

There are several potential implications.

For independent creators: Access to free professional design and animation software could lower the financial barrier to developing new skills. A graphic designer might explore animation, while a motion designer could incorporate more advanced illustration into their work.

For creative agencies: Improved compatibility between applications could reduce the time spent transferring assets and preparing different versions of the same project.

For businesses: Brand Kit integration and controlled animation editing could allow marketing teams to adapt professional creative assets without constantly requesting changes from the original designer.

For multidisciplinary creators: The ability to combine several creative disciplines could make it easier to deliver more comprehensive projects, from branding and animation to AI-assisted concept development and interactive presentations.

These are potential benefits rather than guaranteed outcomes. The effectiveness of the ecosystem will depend on how well the integrations work in practice, how pricing evolves, and whether the applications continue meeting professional production standards.

A changing competitive landscape

Canva's expansion also creates a more direct alternative to traditional professional software ecosystems such as Adobe Creative Cloud.

Adobe has long offered applications covering illustration, photography, page layout, video editing, and motion graphics. Canva is now connecting tools across several of those same disciplines while maintaining its emphasis on accessibility and collaboration.

However, established production workflows, specialized capabilities, and existing industry requirements will continue to influence which applications professionals choose.

The introduction of ProSuite does not automatically mean creators will abandon their current software. Instead, it gives them another ecosystem to evaluate based on their individual needs.

Wondereum's perspective: Technology should expand creativity, not define it

At Wondereum, we believe creativity thrives when people have the freedom to explore their abilities, develop new skills, and express themselves authentically.

Canva ProSuite represents an interesting opportunity in that regard.

A creator who previously focused exclusively on illustration might begin exploring motion design. A photographer could experiment with more sophisticated editing techniques. An entrepreneur might gain access to professional tools that were previously outside their budget.

The possibilities become even more interesting when artificial intelligence enters the picture.

But accessibility and automation should never be confused with artistic development.

Having access to professional software does not automatically make someone a professional designer. Generating hundreds of images does not necessarily produce a compelling creative concept.

The value of creativity still comes from the individual: their experiences, imagination, technical understanding, and ability to communicate something meaningful.

The healthiest relationship between creators and technology is one where the tools support the vision rather than dictate it.

The future of creativity shouldn't be about choosing between human craftsmanship and artificial intelligence. It should be about discovering how they can work together while keeping the creator in control.

And with Canva ProSuite, that future is becoming a little more connected.

Authenticity is Everything!
